Voracek makes up for Simmonds' missed hat trick, will donate 396 hats

Jake Voracek may have stolen Wayne Simmonds' hat trick on Tuesday, but he is making up for it in a big way.

Late in the first period, Voracek shot from the slot, the puck careened off a Colorado defenseman and into the net as Simmonds swiped at the puck. At first glance, Simmons appeared to tip it in for his third goal of the period.

Fans went wild, pouring their hats on the ice, celebrating Simmonds' hat trick ... 396 hats to be exact.

The only problem was, it was Voracek's goal.

"I think that's the first time, and hopefully last time, I get booed when I scored a goal," Voracek told Chris Therian between periods. "Let's be honest, guys, I'm sorry for the hats."

Well, fans, your hats didn't go to waste.

Voracek said he will buy 396 new Flyers hats and donate them to local hospitals for kids battling cancer.

At about $20 a hat, that’s about $8,000.

"Well, it's for a good cause, right? So, that's all that matters," Voracek said.

And luckily for him, he left the rink with no broken windows.

"I left the rink after midnight, just in case," Voracek said.
