A winger with ‘dynamic speed' and a goalie headline Flyers' 2021 draft class

With the revamping of the Flyers' roster through a flurry of moves, the 2021 NHL draft felt like a subplot in the club's headline-filled offseason.

But let's not forget the Flyers added six players to their prospect pool this weekend.

Here's a breakdown of how assistant general manager Brent Flahr and company made out in the 2021 draft:

Second round, No. 46: Samu Tuomaala, 5-10/179, RW

Analysis: A Finnish winger with big-time speed who was considered a first-round talent by many draft experts and outlets. Tuomaala models his game after David Pastrnak because of his affinity to putting the puck in the net.

Quotable: "We kind of thought he would probably go at the end of the first or somewhere in the 20s and he fell. A real talented winger, great speed, real dynamic speed, he loves to shoot the puck and score goals. Talented kid. He's going to take a little time to get stronger and put on a little weight, but a talented kid that has real good offensive upside." - Flahr

Third round, No. 78: Aleksei Kolosov, 6-1/185, G

Analysis: A Belarusian netminder with good size and athleticism. Kolosov, who was the third goalie taken in the draft, handled himself well playing against men in the KHL.

Quotable: "He got to play a lot in the KHL as a young goalie, which is a rarity — and not only play, but play well and saw a lot of shots in tough situations. He's a talented guy, very athletic and a guy our goalie guys are confident they can mold into an NHL goalie." - Flahr

Fourth round, No. 110: Brian Zanetti, 6-2/181, D

Analysis: A Swiss defenseman with upside revolving around his length, reach and skating ability.

Quotable: "Raw kid. We see him down the road as a D-man with size and mobility. He can be a good defender and help you with the puck." - Flyers amateur scout Joakim Grundberg

Fifth round, No. 158: Ty Murchison, 6-2/192, D

Analysis: A U.S. defenseman who gets after it with his energy and effort to make sure the puck is going north.

Quotable: "Good size, very good mobility, plays an aggressive style. He's going to have to probably learn to tone things down a little bit as far as picking his spots when to be aggressive. But a kid that comes to play, plays hard and brings an aggressive nature, which is great."

Sixth round, No. 174: Ethan Samson, 6-1/180, D

Analysis: A Canadian defenseman with an intriguing ceiling as he grows and plays a big role with the WHL's Prince George Cougars.

Quotable: "He's got some room to develop. Right-hand shot and for a D-man it’s always an asset as we find them harder to find. I think he’s got a lot of development left; he’s going to play on a good team in P.G. and for a good coach. He’s got upside." - Flyers amateur scout Mark Greig

Seventh round, No. 206: Owen McLaughlin, 6-0/165, C

Analysis: A skilled center from Spring City, Pennsylvania, in Chester County, who will aim to gain strength as he heads to the USHL in 2021-22.

Quotable: "Talented kid at the high school level. Obviously, he’s going to have a little bit longer path, but a highly skilled kid at that level." - Flahr
