There have been plenty of names linked to the Eagles coaching search since the team fired Chip Kelly.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, there were two notable omissions.
The Eagles have not yet reached out to Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott and have not yet requested permission to interview Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, according to league sources.
McDermott and Jackson are considered to be two of the hottest names on the market.
McDermott, 41, was on 97.5 The Fanatic on Tuesday morning and seemed very interested in the Eagles' vacancy (see story). He has strong ties to the Philadelphia area and the Eagles organization. He first joined the Eagles in 1998 as an intern and rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the defensive coordinator. McDermott has been the Panthers defensive coordinator since 2011, the year after he was fired by the Eagles.
Because the Panthers have a bye week, the Eagles could interview McDermott at any time this week if they choose.
Jackson, 50, is in his second season as the Bengals' OC. He was a head coach for one season with the Raiders in 2011, but was fired after the team went 8-8.
Because the Bengals play on Saturday, Jackson isn't available for interviews this week. But according to an NFL Network report, the 49ers and Dolphins have already requested interviews.
Either way, Jackson can be interviewed as early as Sunday. If the Bengals lose, he can interview for and accept any job without restrictions. If the Bengals win, Cincinnati would need to give expressed permission to any team before an interview can take place and Jackson wouldn't be able to accept an offer until the Bengals get knocked out of the playoffs.
So far, the Eagles have confirmed that they interviewed Pat Shurmur, Duce Staley and Adam Gase for the job.
