Philly shows love for Alshon Jeffery on social media despite season-ending drop

Two minutes left in a divisional round playoff game. The Eagles are down six points but driving, and Nick Foles is looking like a magician under center as he has done so many times before.

It feels inevitable that the Birds are going to score a touchdown and win the game.

Then, heartbreak. Alshon Jeffery, the team’s highest-paid receiver, drops an easy catch to keep the drive going. It lands right in the hands of the New Orleans Saints. Season over.

“I gotta catch that ball,” Jeffery said after the game. "That’s on me. I’ll take that loss. I let all my teammates down. To the City of Philadelphia, that’s on me. I’ll take that.”

In the Philadelphia we grew up in, this would be a recipe for fans to run a guy out of town. Sports talk radio would be full of demands to cut him first thing Monday morning. We’d be yelling like Chicago did all last week at Cody Parkey

But that Philadelphia — the pre-Super Bowl LII Philadelphia — might as well be an alternate universe now. Eagles fans understand just how important Jeffery was to that Super Bowl win a year ago, and they’re here to let him know that they have his back despite the devastating mistake.

Win as a team, lose as a team. Philly has your back, Alshon.
