Thinking about drafting Dallas Goedert in fantasy football this year? Let's explore what you should do.
2020 Stats: 46 catches, 524 yards, 3 TD
If it feels like we’ve been waiting years for Dallas Goedert’s breakout year, it’s because he’s played three seasons with the Eagles and has looked like a TE1-capable player in all three.

But he’s been stuck behind the greatest TE in Eagles history and one of the league’s premier TEs since he arrived in Philly in Zach Ertz, so Goedert has been quietly biding his time and waiting for his shot.
Ertz is still on the roster and reported to training camp, but his future in Philly is uncertain, while it seems like Goedert is primed to finally make his move to TE1 and explode as a big, dynamic pass-catching tight end who is a legit matchup problem for every opposing defense.
Despite being a TE2, missing a big chunk of time, and playing with a wonky QB situation all year last year, Goedert was still the 13th-ranked tight end in fantasy points per game in standard leagues and 10th-ranked in half- and full-PPR leagues. I know George Kittle was hurt last year, but that’s a really legit spot for a guy who was handcuffed all year by injuries and team-based situations. His ceiling is so high.

Goedert missed a good chunk of time last year due to injuries, but he flashed in Week 1 the real potential he has, catching eight passes for 101 yards and a touchdown against Washington. And new QB1 Jalen Hurts seems more than willing to look for his tight ends: in the four games he started at the end of the season, and despite Hurts only playing the first half in Week 17 and Goedert sitting the entirety of Week 17, Hurts targeted Goedert and Ertz a combined 40 times. If Goedert carves out his space at TE1 early this season and sees the majority of the TE targets, he could be pulling in serious volume all season long.
I like Goedert as maybe the No. 7 or No. 8 tight end this year, unless something wild happens with Ertz’s situation. Pay attention to the trade rumors before your draft, but Goedert could be a TE steal who pays off in the long run - especially if you’re playing dynasty.
