Philadelphia Eagles

This Masked Singer is definitely Jordan Mailata, right?

I'm going to start by saying: I don't know anything about The Masked Singer. I've never watched an episode; my combination music/reality TV jam was American Idol.

But I do know a few things about the Philadelphia Eagles and I spend a lot of time on the internet, and it seems a notable Eagles player might be taking part in the latest season of the FOX game show.

The current operating theory: Jordan Mailata is Thingamabob.

(I'll explain.)

Mailata, as many Eagles fans know, has a great singing voice. He's been captured multiple times around the Eagles' facility with a guitar in hand, belting out songs and generally impressing everyone in the immediate vicinity:

So the idea that Mailata could be competing in, and excelling at, a show based around singing makes a lot of sense.

And then you take a close look at the clues the show has offered for a character named Thingamabob - with the premise being that someone relatively famous is the person singing - and you'll start to see why it's almost certainly Mailata underneath that fuzzy helmet.

Here's a clip from the show where the character's clues are revealed.

A quick rundown of the clues:

  • "Taken from its natural habitat": Mailata left New Zealand to come play in the NFL

  • Hotel California: Mailata plays for the Eagles, the band that performs Hotel California. And Mailata has previously detailed his desire to have seen an Eagles concert from the 1990s in which their rendition of Hotel California blew his mind

  • Bulldog: Mailata previously played rugby for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs

  • Tackle box: Mailata plays left tackle for the Eagles

  • Bald eagle: Again, he plays for the Eagles

  • "A couple quarters": A football game is divided into four quarters

  • Liberty Bell on the jar: The Liberty Bell is of course an iconic Philadelphia symbol

And then there's the music itself. Beyond Mailata performing a Bon Jovi song on the show (a band he's discussed in the past as being one of his favorites), the voice is extremely reminiscent of Mailata's - as is the towering stature.

Here's his performance from Episode 2:

Dude can sing.

Is there a chance Thingamabob is actually another extremely tall man who loves a bunch of Eagles-related items and has a gorgeous voice? Sure, I suppose.

But c'mon - this is definitely Mailata.
