Seconds after Andy Reid officially became a Super Bowl champion, the Eagles officially congratulated their former head coach and one of the most important people in the history of their franchise.
And they did it in the perfect way.
While Jeffrey Lurie fired Reid after the 2012 season, they have remained close and there has always been a ton of mutual respect between Reid and the Eagles. Heck, Reid’s recommendation for Doug Pederson back in 2016 meant an awful lot and there are still a ton of ties between Reid and the Eagles left from his 14 years as head coach in Philadelphia.
Sunday night was a chance for the Eagles and for a bunch of Reid’s former players to congratulate Big Red on winning his first Super Bowl, something that had eluded him for far too long.
Reid, 61, definitely felt the love.
“Jeff Lurie and I are still friends and that’s important,” Reid said on NFL Network on Sunday night after the 31-20 win. “I mean, the things he did for my family, myself, I’ll always be grateful to him. And the people of Philadelphia, they’re tremendous. It’s a great city. I loved coaching there.”

During the week in Miami, Lurie told NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark just how much he was rooting for Reid to finally get that Super Bowl ring.
“Other than the Eagles, I’ve never rooted for anybody harder than Andy,” Lurie said. “So deserving. Hall of Fame coach. He’s going to win a Super Bowl soon. I hope it’s Sunday.”
