The Eagles have confirmed they interviewed Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase for their head coaching vacancy on Tuesday.

ESPN reported over the weekend that Gase would interview with the Birds on Tuesday, just a day after they interviewed interim head coach Pat Shurmur. Running backs coach Duce Staley is the only other candidate the Eagles confirmed they have interviewed for the position.

Gase, who spent five years with the Lions, one with the 49ers and six with the Broncos before his one year with the Bears, is only 37 but has emerged as one of the top head coaching candidates available this offseason.

In Chicago, Gase helped revive quarterback Jay Cutler’s career in his first year as Bears offensive coordinator

The Bears ranked 20th this year in points per game, 16th in yards per game and 23rd in yards per play this year. They went 6-10 and didn’t have a receiver or running back with 1,000 yards. The Bears only scored more than 23 points three times all year.

But Cutler had the best year of his career, finishing with a career-best 92.3 passer rating and cutting his interceptions down from an NFL-high 18 last year to just eight this year. The Bears’ season ended Sunday with a 24-20 loss to the Lions.

As the coaching search continues, the team has yet to contact Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott or Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Hue Jackson, according to league sources.
