The Kansas City Chiefs have taken their historic three-peat bid all the way to the Big Game.

The Chiefs will meet the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans with a chance to become the first team in NFL history to capture three straight Lombardi Trophies.

Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid and Co. last season became just the ninth team to ever win back-to-back Super Bowls and the first to do so in nearly two decades. Of the eight previous repeat champions, however, none were able to reach a third straight Super Bowl.

But the 2024 Chiefs went 15-2 in the regular season to earn the AFC's No. 1 seed before taking down the No. 4 Houston Texans in the Divisional Round and the No. 2 Buffalo Bills in the conference championship. And now, for the first time in NFL history, the Big Game will feature a two-time reigning Super Bowl champ.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship to advance to their fifth Super Bowl in six years.

How many teams have made three straight Super Bowls?

The Chiefs are just the fourth team in NFL history to appear in at least three straight Super Bowls. The Bills infamously own the record for consecutive Super Bowl appearances with four -- and they lost all of them. Buffalo, which has never won a Super Bowl, finished as the runner-up from the 1990-93 seasons.

The Miami Dolphins were the first team to reach three straight Super Bowls. Miami was the runner-up in the 1971 season before winning two straight Super Bowls.

The New England Patriots had been the most recent team to make three straight Super Bowls, doing so from the 2016-18 seasons. The Pats' runner-up finish in 2017 was sandwiched by two championship seasons.

When and where is the Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl 2025?

Kansas City will try to complete the first-ever Super Bowl three-peat when it battles Philadelphia on Sunday, Feb. 9 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
