As MJD over at Yahoo! Sports pointed out earlier today, one of the main reasons local superstar Tyreke Evans chose Memphis over Villanova was to distance himself from his past.
And it's rare that a coach would get to use something like that in his recruiting pitch.
"Hey, Tyreke, we've got great facilities, I know how to send players to the
pros, and oh yeah, no one in Memphis wants to murder you."
I suppose you can't blame the guy. Jay Wright is running a very respectable program at Villanova, but John Calipari is running what seems like an NBA developmental league team down in Memphis. Plus, some hoods from Chester with a vendetta would probably have a lot more trouble finding their way to Tennessee than the Main Line.
