Moyer Puts Marlins Over His Knee. Again.

Jamie Moyer may not have the best stats in baseball, but this year, he's been great at generating the one that can be the most elusive for even a great pitcher: Wins. After last night's two-hit flirter, Moyer leads the team in W's with seven, including winning six of his last eight starts, and not losing in his six appearances since May 10.

Last night the Ol' Man took on the upstart Marlins, who'd beaten the Phils in the two previous games against Brett Myers and Cole Hamels, who tossed a gem for his part. Moyer shut out the Fish, allowing just two hits and one walk in eight innings. But this is nothing new for Moyer, who is now 9-0 against Florida in his career. With the Phillies often falling to lesser iterations of the Marlins franchise, it's relieving to see that Moyer can beat them even at the top of their game.

Todd Zolecki wonders if and when the Phils should start aligning the rotation for September, when they play the Marlins six times. A few seasons after signing an age-d pitcher, it's a testament to Moyer that he's still a prominent part of that discussion.

With the win, the Phils return to three games up on the Marlins in the NL East. The Braves and Mets continue to flounder at 7.5 games back. Is there anything better than a Billy Wagner blown save? The answer: Yes. Three Wagner blown save opps in a row. He should be thrilled that his teammates don't want to do post-game interviews.
