PHILADELPHIA- (January 28, 2016) –Black History Month will be celebrated all month long on Comcast SportsNet, The Comcast Network and CSNPhilly.com, through feature profiles of prominent members of the Philadelphia sports community, discussions on the impact race has had on sports, and the personal struggles of local and national sports heroes.
Comcast SportsNet, The Comcast Network and CSNPhilly.com anchors, reporters and Insiders share their personal stories of inspiration through a series of vignettes that will run on-air and online throughout the month.
“Breakfast on Broad”
“Breakfast on Broad,” hosts Rob Ellis, Jillian Mele, Barrett Brooks and Sarah Baicker will discuss a wide range of topics highlighting prominent figures and moments.
“Philly Sports Talk”
Every Friday during “Philly Sports Talk,” host Michael Barkann and the panelists will explore the connection between sports and race. Topics will range from areas of progress, to areas needing improvements.
“SportsNet Central”
Each Monday in February, Comcast SportsNet will profile local and national stories that promote the spirit of Black History Month, including five special features that will run during “SportsNet Central” at 10 p.m.
· Emlen Tunnel – a Delaware County native who went on to become a war hero and the first African American to play for the New York Giants Football team. He was also the first African American to be inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame.
· What's Mo’ne Davis up to? Catching up with this 15 year old phenom who took the world by storm with her little league heroics.
· Nasir Bell- a profile on 17-year old student-athlete Nasir Bell from Martin Luther King High School and his dream to go to college after overcoming a tough childhood.
· Fight to Survive - the story of two volunteers at the Marian Anderson rec center who use boxing to keep kids on the right path.
· Roman Catholic - The first integrated high school basketball team in the city.
Flyers and Sixers Games
During Black History Month, viewers watching Flyers and Sixers game broadcasts will highlight trailblazers in the respective sports, plus work done by the team, players, and the leagues.
Comcast SportsNet and The Comcast Network will air a number of programs highlighting prominent local athletes including Brian Westbrook and Mo’Ne Davis, plus Philadelphia legends Joe Frazier and Darryl Dawkins. Additionally, the networks will air a documentary and other programs on track star and pioneer Jesse Owens.
