The Sixers on Thursday made another move to further invest in the sports science field.

They added Todd Wright to their training staff as assistant coach, head of strength and conditioning and promoted Jesse Wright (no relation) to, according to the release, a "newly created performance science position."

Jesse was the Sixers' previous strength and conditioning coach.

Todd had served as the strength and conditioning coach for Texas' men's basketball team for the last 13 seasons. He has logged 21 years of experience and is known for using innovative and basketball specific techniques.

Wright, who also worked at Clemson, is also a respected speaker in the field and is recognized for developing "Vertical Core Training."

“We feel fortunate to now call Todd Wright a Sixer. His reputation as a trainer of basketball players is second to none," general manager Sam Hinkie said in a statement released by the team. "When it became clear that the University of Texas was to make a change in their men’s basketball program, I booked a flight to Austin within 10 minutes."

Last week the Sixers hired Dr. David T. Martin as their director of performance research and development.

“Our additions of Dr. David T. Martin and Todd Wright are further evidence of our desire to be considered world class in the fields of sport science and athletic performance," Hinkie said.

Jesse Wright, who has been with the Sixers for nine seasons, will work closely with Martin and Todd Wright and focus on implementing the newest training, fitness, and recovery initiatives.
