MLB draft history: Notable 4th-round picks

The 2020 MLB draft resumes Thursday at 5 p.m. with Rounds 2 through 5.

The Phillies, who forfeited their second-round pick by signing Zack Wheeler, have three remaining picks in the five-round 2020 draft: 87, 116 and 146.

That 116th pick comes in the fourth round, which has produced Hall of Famers like Rickey Henderson, Ozzie Smith and Jeff Bagwell, future Hall of Famer Yadier Molina and plenty of other household names.

The Phillies' most notable fourth-round picks were Michael Bourn in 2003, Dickie Noles in 1975 and Jason Michaels in 1998. Bourn played 11 seasons in the majors and was an All-Star with both the Astros and Braves. He was the main piece in the Phillies' trade for Brad Lidge, so in a roundabout way, the Phillies may not have won the 2008 World Series without that Bourn pick five years earlier.

Cliff Lee was drafted in the fourth round by the Expos in 2000, and one of the players the Phillies traded for him in 2009, Lou Marson, was a fourth-rounder.

So were Trevor May (traded for Ben Revere), Cody Asche and lefty JoJo Romero, who is currently on the Phils' 40-man roster.
