CLEARWATER, Fla. — Bryce Harper exited today's Phillies game after being hit by a pitch in the first inning but fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Harper said that he's "totally fine" and had been scheduled for only two at-bats.
Harper was hit on the left foot by Minnesota Twins right-hander Sean Poppen.
Harper clearly felt some pain. He backed out of the batter's box and put his hands on his knees. Manager Joe Girardi jogged out of the dugout and immediately removed him from the game as a precaution.
Moments after leaving the game, Harper walked off the field with no limp. He was replaced in left field by Kyle Garlick.
The Phillies need Harper to be on the field and productive if they are going to have a chance in the NL East this season. Opening day is two weeks from Thursday.
